References to Jesus’ baptism are found in all four gospels (Mk 1:9–11; Mt 3:13–17; Lk 3:21–22; Jn 1:30–34) and indirectly in Acts (10:37–38). There is no reason to question the historicity of the fact that Jesus of Nazareth, toward the beginning of his own ministry, submitted himself to a ritual washing performed by John the Baptist.
