a. In analyzing the different references in the New Testament to Jesus’ ascension, we must reckon with their varying nuances. (1) The earliest references speak of Jesus’ transit to the Father or to glory as an “exaltation” and use this term in a way that makes it difficult to be sure whether the resurrection or the ascension (or possibly both) is meant. These references seem to describe a passage from death on the cross to a
