Wesley’s conservatism was political as well as religious. He published an open letter to the American colonies warning them to stay loyal to Britain just before the American Revolution. He would not have tolerated any talk of civil upheaval in England. It has been argued that other forces were at work in England besides Wesley and a few other preachers.
