The issue in that case is to prefer obedience to the law to the call of Jesus. Here Bonhoeffer comments that nothing, not even the law, should come between Jesus and the disciple. One suspects that Bonhoeffer is alluding to the conflict so prevalent in the Nazi era that following Jesus Christ could very well entail violating laws that the gospel would oppose.
