The Message of 2 Timothy is unavailable, but you can change that!

The second letter to Timothy is a final charge from the apostle Paul as he nears the end of his life. He summons his younger associate to be strong, brave and steadfast in the face of doctrinal and moral confusion.

Surely because he wants to emphasize that opposition to the truth is not a passing situation, but a permanent characteristic of the age. Perhaps he fears that Timothy will be over-optimistic, hoping that if he lies low for a while, the storm will pass. But Paul gives him no such hope. We too should ‘understand this’, and be quite clear about the perils and troubles which will beset us if we stand firm in the truth of the gospel. Next, Paul refers to ‘the last days’.
