The introduction (1:1–3) locates Jeremiah’s call chronologically in the reign of Josiah and geographically sets him in Anathoth, Jerusalem and Judah. However, the opening speech of God (5), as we shift to Jeremiah’s first-person testimony, takes us much further back in the mind of God (before Jeremiah was born) and sets a much wider stage (the world of the nations).
