love, faith and hope are useless. Why bother hoping for something that you do not want?”88 Augustine went on to add that when our hope of attaining or achieving something is realized, faith disappears because it is no longer necessary. The message here is that faith lies at the heart of the Christian life because it is the substance or basis of the hope that the gospel gives us for the future. That hope in turn motivates us to act, so that we can enjoy and appreciate that future when it arrives.
