are intended to jolt us out of our complacency regarding the evils of this age and the unimaginable blessedness of the age to come. As we process Revelation’s vivid pictures we’re meant to feel the hot breath of the beast and smell the sulfur from the pit and see the rainbow around the throne. These images are intended to shake us out of our sleepiness and apathy and the détente we may have made with the world’s ways. Our prayer should be that as we see these things, they will make a deep impression
