Abraham goes back to the two young men: and they … went together (v. 19)—the same words used of Abraham and Isaac on the way to the mountain (22:6, 8). Perhaps we should assume Isaac was there also, though not mentioned. But then again, perhaps Isaac moves from the mountain into the future, while Abraham’s responsibility to the promise has been completed and with that he returns to Beersheba. Isaac remains a bit of a mystery.
