of saints as “superstition.” We might respond that the Protestant opposition is mere prejudice, based on misunderstandings (for example, the idolatry and spiritism charges), a misplaced and exaggerated horror of abuses, and an incomplete grappling with all the scriptural information which can be brought to bear. God forbids spiritism, sorcery, occultic practice, mgic, and similar activities but not intercession in the mystical Body of Christ: a fundamentally different thing. Critics of Catholic belief
