The Bible is both a historical and spiritual book. As a historical book, written for certain people in a certain time, the Bible is meant to be read in its context—discerned based on details of the period. These details can be gleaned from other literature and other biblical passages. As a spiritual book, the Bible always points us back to the God it is about: Yahweh, who is seen as Father, Son, and Spirit. The Bible is a collection of literature, written at different times for different purposes.
