Even Tyndale (not Coverdale), the Great Bible and Geneva 1557 have the future, after Vulg. xviii. 24. οὖν added after ἀπέστειλεν, so Geneva 1557, Bishops’ Bible: “And Annas” Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible, after Vulg. Acts i. 4. In Beza’s editions of 1582, 1589, 1598 (not 1565) μετʼ αὐτῶν follows συναλιζόμενος, being doubtless derived from his own celebrated manuscript, Codex D. The italics in “with them” belong to 1769: no other English have “with.” xvii. 25. καὶ τὰ πάντα Vulg. Col. i. 2. Κολοσσαῖς in nearly all: Κολασσαῖς Erasm., Steph. ver. 24. ὃς is set before νῦν χαίρω in Beza’s last three editions, Vulg., and our Authorized Version only among the English. ii. 13. ὑμῖν Vulg., Geneva 1557 (Bishops’): but ἡμῖν Compl., Erasm., Steph., other English versions. 1 Thess. ii. 13. οὐχ ὡς λόγον ἀνθρώπων Beza 1589, 1598 (not 1565), Vulg., English (perhaps rather as an interpretation than a reading)1: the rest omit ὡς. ver. 15. ἡμᾶς all except Steph., which has ὑμᾶς. 1 Tim. i. 4. οἰκοδομίαν Erasm., Ald., Vulg., all English?, but οἰκονομίαν Compl., Steph. Titus ii. 10. ἡμῶν all except Steph., who reads ὑμῶν. Heb. ix. 1. σκηνὴ omitted by Erasm., Ald., Beza, Vulg. (“Testament” Great Bible, “covenant” Geneva 1557, Bishops’, Authorized), but Compl., Tyndale, Coverdale have it. x. 10. Compl., Erasm., Steph., but apparently no English version, prefix οἱ to διά. xii. 22, 23. Compl., Erasm., Steph., Vulg., with all the English versions before the Authorized, and most modern editors, join πανηγύρει with ver. 22. James iv. 13, 15. The four verbs in ver. 13 and ποιήσομεν ver. 15 are futures in Vulg., Geneva 1557 (the Authorized stands alone in reading with Stephens 15492 ζήσομεν ver. 15), but they are aorists subjunctive in Compl., Erasm., Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible, Bishops’. v. 12. εἰς ὑπόκρισιν of Compl., Erasm., Steph., Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible, was corrected into εἰς κρίσιν by Geneva 1557, Bishops’ (“sub judicio” Vulg.). 1 Pet. iii. 21 init. ᾧ Compl., Ald., Geneva 1557, Bishops’: but ὃ Erasm., Steph., Vulg., Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible. 2 Pet. ii. 18. ἐν ἀσελγείαις of Beza is certainly the reading of the Authorized (“through” was not italicised before 1769), possibly of Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible, Geneva 1557: but the Bishops’ (“they entice through lusts with the bait of wantonness of the flesh”) after Compl., Erasm., Steph., rightly omits ἐν. iii. 7. τῷ αὐτῷ λόγῳ Vulg., Tyndale, Geneva 1557, but τῷ αὐτοῦ (αὐτοῦ only, Erasm.) λόγῳ Compl., Erasm., Steph., Coverdale, Great Bible, Bishops’. 1 John i. 4. χαρὰ ὑμῶν after Erasm. is rendered in all English versions except Tyndale 1534, but ἡμῶν in Compl., Steph., Vulg. ii. 23. ὁ ὁμολογῶν τὸν υἱὸν καὶ τὸν πατέρα ἔχει is the well-known clause inserted in italics in our own and the Bishops’ versions, to indicate thereby a doubtful reading (Introduction, p. xxxv.). Though not in Compl., Erasm., Steph., or even in Beza 1565, Tyndale, Coverdale, Geneva 1557, it was brought in within brackets and italicised in the Great Bible, doubtless from the Vulgate, and rightly forms a part of the text in Beza’s last three editions. v. 14. ὑμῶν is a mere erratum of Stephens. 2 John 3. ὑμῶν Compl., all English except the Great Bible: ἡμῶν Erasm., Steph., Vulg. (manuscripts, not Clementine edition). ver. 5. γράφω Erasm., Steph. only. 3 John 7. αὐτοῦ after ὀνόματος of Compl., Vulg. (Clementine), English versions, is omitted in Erasm., Steph., Vulg. manuscripts. Jude 19. ἑαυτοὺς is added after ἀποδιορίζοντες in Vulg., Beza, and our own Version against Compl., Erasm., and the other English (“makers of sects”). ver. 24. ὑμᾶς Vulg., English versions, but αὐτοὺς Compl., Erasm., Steph. Rev. i. 113. ἑπτὰ is prefixed to ἐκκλησίαις in Compl., Vulg., Great Bible, Geneva 1557, Bishops’; but not in Erasm., Steph., Tyndale, Coverdale. iii. 1. ἑπτὰ is prefixed to πνεύματα in Compl., Vulg., all English except Tyndale (“the spirit”); but not in Erasm., Steph., Luther. v. 11. Erasm., Steph. omit καὶ ἦν ὁ ἀριθμὸς αὐτῶν μυριάδες μυριάδων with Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible, Bishops’: μυριάδες μυριάδων is omitted in Vulg., Geneva 1557. But Compl. and the Authorized have the whole clause. vii. 2. ἀναβαίνοντα Compl., Vulg., Bishops’ (“ascend” other English): ἀναβάντα Erasm., Steph. ver. 3. σφραγίσωμεν Compl., English versions: σφραγίζωμεν Erasm., Steph. ver. 10. τῷ θεῷ ἡμῶν τῷ καθημένῳ ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου Compl., Vulg., Geneva 1557: but τῷ καθημένῳ ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν Erasm., Steph., Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible, Bishops’. ver. 14. αὐτὰς (after ἐλεύκαναν) Compl., Vulg., English versions: στολὰς αὐτῶν Erasm.4, Steph. viii. 6. οἱ ἔχοντες Compl., Vulg., all English: but Erasm., Steph. omit οἱ. ver. 11. τῶν ὑδάτων after τὸ τρίτον is omitted by Tyndale, Great Bible, Bishops’; but not by Compl., Vulg., Coverdale, Geneva 1557. ix. 19. αἱ γὰρ ἐξουσίαι αὐτῶν ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτῶν εἰσιν (omitting καὶ ἐν ταῖς οὐραῖς αὐτῶν) Erasm., Steph., against Compl., English (“their powers be” Bishops’). xi. 1. καὶ ὁ ἄγγελος εἱστήκει before λέγων is omitted by Erasm., Steph., Vulg., Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible: the words are found, less correctly, in Compl., Geneva 1557, Bishops’. ver. 2. ἔξωθεν (before τοῦ ναοῦ) Compl., Vulg., Geneva 1557, Bishops’; but ἔσωθεν Erasm., Steph., Tyndale; Coverdale, Great Bible. xiii. 3. ἐθαύμασεν ὅλη ἡ γῆ Compl., Vulg., all English: ἐθαυμάσθη ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ γῇ Erasm., Steph. xiv. 18. τοὺς βότρυας τῆς ἀμπέλου Compl., Vulg., Geneva 1557, Bishops’: but τῆς ἀμπέλου is omitted in Erasm. (but not his Latin of 1516), Steph., Tyndale, Coverdale, Great Bible. xvi. 5. ἐσόμενος (for ὅσιος), a bold variation of Beza’s last three editions, is adopted in our version and the Elzevir text of 1633. ver. 14. ἃ ἐκπορεύεται Compl., Vulg. (Clementine): but ἐκπορεύεσθαι of Erasm., Steph., all English versions before the Authorized, is perhaps preferable. xix. 14. τὰ is prefixed to ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ in Compl., Vulg., all English versions (“which were” not being italicised in the Authorized before 1769): but τὰ is omitted by Erasm., Steph.
