on the hearth, turned to that verse, and stared at those eight words for at least a minute. Okay, I thought, I’ve mastered the first half of that verse. I’m miserable. Now how do I move to the second half? How do I earnestly seek God? The question itself jarred something loose in me. I realized I had been assuming it was His job to seek me. I was the lost sheep, baa-baaing alone in the night. Isn’t that the cue for the Good Shepherd to leave the ninety-nine and come looking for me? (Matthew 18:12).
