Murray was certainly in the Augustinian/Calvinist tradition, and his writings breathe a devotional spirit which have always cheered me onward. After much careful and appreciative reading of him I definitely decided that the Puritans’ account of the struggles of the Christian Life (such as in vol. 6 of the Works of John Owen) give a better account of many of these matters than Murray’s ‘Higher Life’ teaching (developed later in his life).
