Change from the outside might look good at church on Sunday, but it leaves us empty and restless the other six days of the week.4 Pseudo-transformation doesn’t touch our deepest soul-sickness. It doesn’t move us beyond the issues, problems, and sins that keep us from experiencing the life Jesus promised.5 Pseudo-transformation leaves us sick because when we don’t really change, we have to live with the residue of guilt and shame over our repeated attempts to get life right.
