The whole point of God’s dealings with Abraham was to manifest clearly that the benefits of the covenant rest in the power and the grace of God alone. God was not saying, “Well, Abraham, if you really work at it, I’m going to help you to become great, and I will be your cheerleader as you cooperate with the gifts that I give you so that you can become the head of a great nation.” No. Abraham was incapable of receiving these covenant blessings apart from the supernatural intervention of God Himself.
