Denominational identity and religious identity are seemingly on the decline in this country. I'm going to try to paint with a broad brush in this chapter so we will not get bogged down in details, but I want to help us see how we have arrived at this situation and where we might be able to go from here. On the Christianity Today website in the middle of 2009 was a story that claimed that in 1990 there were about 200,000 people in the United States who classified themselves as "nondenominational."
