Goliath and therefore concluded that he would defeat them. David showed up to deliver a lunch to his brothers and was confused as to why the army of Israel had failed to rise to Goliath’s challenge. And then he shockingly said that he would fight Goliath. Was he that arrogant? Was he delusional? Did he not understand the impossible odds? No. Listen to what David said: “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine” (v. 37).
