This charge is to “preach the word” of God (4:2). What does this charge mean? Where would one go to find the answer? Evangelicals know that the answer is the Bible, but where in the Bible? This is the key question. I fear that most attempts to answer this question have been unnecessarily selective. Some studies narrowly rely on word studies of “preaching” words. Others tip their hat to the Old Testament and then spend the rest of their time looking in the New Testament. This
