God gives us permission to meditatively ponder, even in the midst of our fragmented existence. He invites us to ''listen, that you may live.'' Many Christians are distracted and dissatisfied. The external demands of life grip us, while our inner walk with God becomes ever more superficial and thin. Is there hope for authentic connection with God in a world of distractions, or must we be resigned...

Mary demonstrates a very helpful principle: say yes to listening, say no to worrying. We know that worry bogs our souls down, along with its next of kin, fear. When worry takes over, faith and hope are squelched. Our bodies are affected as well—stomach pain, headache, cold sweat, trembling, to name a few of its symptoms. Worry and fear are to life as pitch darkness is to a child stumbling for the light switch—it paralyzes, confuses, and leaves us feeling utterly lonely. Jesus’ correction to Martha
