Although we have no way of knowing how much time has elapsed between them, Daniel 3 follows closely on the heels of Daniel 2. The Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Old Testament, says Daniel 3 took place in the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign (587–586 BC).
