Calvinists insist that our conversion is monergistic, that is, it is due solely to the gracious work of God in us. God does His work in us through the gospel call, the sharing of the good news of Jesus Christ through God’s people (Rom. 10:8–17). But along with proclamation of the gospel comes effective calling—God’s internal, special work of grace in the heart of God’s elect ensuring that they will respond positively to the gospel call (Rom. 8:30; 1 Cor. 1:22–31; John 6:37, 44, 64–65; Acts 16:13–15).
