To this day, I struggle to follow a syncopated rhythm, and my knowledge of music post-1950 is patchy. One way I’ve tried to expand my musical lexicon is by collecting old records. Not surprisingly, my record collecting is about as disciplined as my piano playing is. I don’t know the proper technique, and my purchasing theory can be best summed up as “whatever catches my fancy.” Our record player isn’t anything
