is not a problem of divorce. It is a problem of marriage. Because people have a distorted and low view of marriage, divorce is an easy option. What Jesus was trying to get the Pharisees to recognize is that if they had God’s view of marriage, then they would also have God’s view of divorce. Jesus began His explanation by asking them, “Have you not read?” (v. 4). In other words, “Don’t you have a Bible?” Jesus hit the Pharisees right between the eyes because they were specialists in the Scripture.
