St. Augustine expressed this key to understanding the Bible when he wrote, “The New is in the Old contained; the Old is by the New explained.” As I’ve used this key in studying the Old Testament, Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, has opened my mind to understand the Scriptures. He has shown me how the Old Testament writers were speaking of Himself in His crucifixion and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins.
