houses: the House of Islam (Dar al-Islam), in which Muslim governments rule and Muslim law prevails, and the House of War (Dar al-Harb), the rest of the world, still inhabited and, more important, ruled by infidels.1 By democratizing itself, Turkey conceded that Muhammad’s political system was flawed and that the way of the infidel was to be accepted. It is no wonder why, as the verse at the beginning of this section points out, Allah threatens those who do not participate in violent jihad with the
