relationships bring us eventually into relationship with God, who is the “Eternal Thou.” When we relate with an inanimate object like a mug, it’s obvious the link is an “I & It” relationship. The relationship is not reciprocal; you and the mug simply can’t connect the way you can with another person or with God. I encounters It as an object However, we can also have I & It relationships with people. In an I & It relationship people do not actually meet even though they may be face-to-face.
