It wasn’t until God saw Moses turn aside that He pursued him by calling him by name. I believe the Lord would have gone no further if Moses had not responded. God did not call him when the flocks were corralled at Jethro’s; it wasn’t the most convenient time. What if Moses had thought, If I get distracted from tending these flocks they’ll wander all over the place and it will take hours, possibly an entire day, to round them up.
