In Romans 5:12 Paul wrote of the initial act of rebellion in human history: “Sin entered the world, and death through sin, . . . because all sinned.” He did not say, “because all sin” (though that is also true, as we shall see) but “because all sinned.” Here God lets us in on something we would not otherwise know.
