The further glory and humor of it is that Levi, the hated, tax collecting burden upon the Hebrews, became the Spirit-anointed, God-called minister to the Hebrews, author of the first book of the New Testament and reputed “Gospel to the Hebrews,” and martyr to the cause of Christ’s kingdom named Matthew, which means gift of God. The obvious lesson to us about Matthew is that no one is hopelessly outcast or without honor who follows Christ.
