Job 17:13–16 — English Standard Version (ESV)
13 If I hope for Sheol as my house,
if I make my bed in darkness,
14 if I say to the pit, ‘You are my father,’
and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ or ‘My sister,’
15 where then is my hope?
Who will see my hope?
16 Will it go down to the bars of Sheol?
Shall we descend together into the dust?”
Job 17:13–16 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
13 If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness. 14 I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: To the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister. 15 And where is now my hope? As for my hope, who shall see it? 16 They shall go down to the bars of the pit, When our rest together is in the dust.
Job 17:13–16 — New Living Translation (NLT)
13 What if I go to the grave
and make my bed in darkness?
14 What if I call the grave my father,
and the maggot my mother or my sister?
15 Where then is my hope?
Can anyone find it?
16 No, my hope will go down with me to the grave.
We will rest together in the dust!”
Job 17:13–16 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
13 If I wait for the grave as my house,
If I make my bed in the darkness,
14 If I say to corruption, ‘You are my father,’
And to the worm, ‘You are my mother and my sister,’
15 Where then is my hope?
As for my hope, who can see it?
16 Will they go down to the gates of Sheol?
Shall we have rest together in the dust?”
Job 17:13–16 — New Century Version (NCV)
13 If the only home I hope for is the grave,
if I spread out my bed in darkness,
14 if I say to the grave, ‘You are my father,’
and to the worm, ‘You are my mother’ or ‘You are my sister,’
15 where, then, is my hope?
Who can see any hope for me?
16 Will hope go down to the gates of death?
Will we go down together into the dust?”
Job 17:13–16 — American Standard Version (ASV)
13 If I look for Sheol as my house;
If I have spread my couch in the darkness;
14 If I have said to corruption, Thou art my father;
To the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister;
15 Where then is my hope?
And as for my hope, who shall see it?
16 It shall go down to the bars of Sheol,
When once there is rest in the dust.
Job 17:13–16 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
13 If I wait, Sheol is my house; I spread my bed in the darkness: 14 I cry to the grave, Thou art my father! to the worm, My mother, and my sister! 15 And where is then my hope? yea, my hope, who shall see it? 16 It shall go down to the bars of Sheol, when our rest shall be together in the dust.
Job 17:13–16 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
13 If I look for the grave as my home
and make my bed in the darkness,
14 if I say to the pit, ‘You are my father,’
and to the worm, ‘You are my mother and sister,’
15 then where is my hope?
Can you see any hope left in me?
16 Will hope go down with me to the gates of the grave?
Will my hope rest with me in the dust?”
Job 17:13–16 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
13 If I await Sheol as my home,
spread out my bed in darkness,
14 and say to corruption: You are my father,

Who can see any hope for me?
16 Will it go down to the gates of Sheol,
or will we descend together to the dust?

Who will see my hope?
16 Will it go down to the bars of Sheol?
Shall we descend together into the dust?”

‘You are like a mother or sister to me.’
15 Then what hope do I have?
Who can give me any hope?
16 Will hope go down to the gates of death with me?
Will we go down together into the dust of the grave?”

And who regards my hope?
16 “Will it go down with me to Sheol?
Shall we together go down into the dust?”
