15The Lord said to me, “Now pretend to be a foolish shepherd. Get the things you need. 16I am going to raise up a shepherd over the land. He will not take care of those that are wounded. He will not look for the young ones. He will not heal those that are hurt. He will not feed the healthy ones. Instead, he will eat the best sheep. He will even tear their hoofs off.

17“How terrible it will be for that worthless shepherd!

He deserts the flock.

May a sword strike his arm and his right eye!

May his powerful arm become weak!

May his right eye be totally blinded!”

ESVEnglish Standard Version

Then the Lord said to me, “Take once more the equipment of a foolish shepherd. For behold, I am raising up in the land a shepherd who does not care for those being destroyed, or seek the young or heal the maimed or nourish the healthy, but devours the flesh of the fat ones, tearing off even their hoofs.

“Woe to my worthless shepherd,

who deserts the flock!

May the sword strike his arm

and his right eye!

Let his arm be wholly withered,

his right eye utterly blinded!”

NIVNew International Version (2011)

Then the Lord said to me, “Take again the equipment of a foolish shepherd. For I am going to raise up a shepherd over the land who will not care for the lost, or seek the young, or heal the injured, or feed the healthy, but will eat the meat of the choice sheep, tearing off their hooves.

“Woe to the worthless shepherd,

who deserts the flock!

May the sword strike his arm and his right eye!

May his arm be completely withered,

his right eye totally blinded!”

CSBChristian Standard Bible

The Lord also said to me, “Take the equipment of a foolish shepherd. I am about to raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for those who are perishing, and he will not seek the lost or heal the broken. He will not sustain the healthy, but he will devour the flesh of the fat sheep and tear off their hooves.

Woe to the worthless shepherd

who deserts the flock!

May a sword strike his arm

and his right eye!

May his arm wither away

and his right eye go completely blind!”

NLTNew Living Translation

Then the Lord said to me, “Go again and play the part of a worthless shepherd. This illustrates how I will give this nation a shepherd who will not care for those who are dying, nor look after the young, nor heal the injured, nor feed the healthy. Instead, this shepherd will eat the meat of the fattest sheep and tear off their hooves.

“What sorrow awaits this worthless shepherd

who abandons the flock!

The sword will cut his arm

and pierce his right eye.

His arm will become useless,

and his right eye completely blind.”

LEBThe Lexham English Bible

And Yahweh said to me, “Take again the implements of a foolish shepherd. For look, I am raising up a shepherd in the land who will not attend to the ones that are perishing; he will not seek the young man, he will not heal the ones that are crushed and he will not sustain the healthy ones; he will devour the flesh of the fattened ones and tear apart even their hoofs.

“Woe, my worthless shepherd

who deserts the flock!

May a sword fall on his arm

and on his right eye!

May his arm wither completely

and his right eye be utterly blinded!”

KJV 1900King James Version

And the Lord said unto me, Take unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd.

For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land,

Which shall not visit those that be cut off,

Neither shall seek the young one,

Nor heal that that is broken,

Nor feed that that standeth still:

But he shall eat the flesh of the fat,

And tear their claws in pieces.

Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock!

The sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye:

His arm shall be clean dried up,

And his right eye shall be utterly darkened.
