Indeed, I will settle in the midst of you all.” Then you will know that the Lord who rules over all has sent me to you. 2:12The Lord will take possession of16 Judah as his portion in the holy land and he will choose Jerusalem once again. 2:13Be silent in the Lord’s presence, all people everywhere,17 for he is being moved to action in his holy dwelling place.18

Read in Logos
Zechariah 2:10: Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I come and I will dwell in your midst, declares the LORD.

Footnotes

  1. 13 This individualizing of Zion as a daughter draws attention to the corporate nature of the covenant community and also to the tenderness with which the Lord regards his chosen people.
  2. 14 Heb “on that day.” The descriptive phrase “of salvation” has been supplied in the translation for clarity.
  3. 15 The and have the 3rd person masculine singular suffix in both places (“his people” and “he will settle”; cf. , ) in order to avoid the Lord’s speaking of himself in the third person. Such resort is unnecessary, however, in light of the common shifting of person in Hebrew narrative (cf. 3:2).
  4. 16 Heb “will inherit” (so , ).
  5. 17 Heb “all flesh”; , “all mankind.”
  6. 18 The sense here is that God in heaven is about to undertake an occupation of his earthly realm (v. 12) by restoring his people to the promised land.

CSBChristian Standard Bible

“Daughter Zion, shout for joy and be glad, for I am coming to dwell among you”—this is the Lord’s declaration. “Many nations will join themselves to the Lord on that day and become my people. I will dwell among you, and you will know that the Lord of Armies has sent me to you. The Lord will take possession of Judah as his portion in the Holy Land, and he will once again choose Jerusalem. Let all humanity be silent before the Lord, for from his holy dwelling he has roused himself.”

NLTNew Living Translation

The Lord says, “Shout and rejoice, O beautiful Jerusalem, for I am coming to live among you. Many nations will join themselves to the Lord on that day, and they, too, will be my people. I will live among you, and you will know that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies sent me to you. The land of Judah will be the Lord’s special possession in the holy land, and he will once again choose Jerusalem to be his own city. LEBThe Lexham English Bible

Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for look, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,” declares Yahweh. “Many nations will join themselves to Yahweh on that day, and they will be my people, and I will dwell in your midst. And you will know that Yahweh of hosts has sent me to you. And Yahweh will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and he will again choose Jerusalem. Be silent, all people, before Yahweh, for he is roused from his holy dwelling.”

KJV 1900King James Version

Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion:

For, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the Lord.

And many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day,

And shall be my people:

And I will dwell in the midst of thee,

And thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto thee.

And the Lord shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land,

And shall choose Jerusalem again.

Be silent, O all flesh, before the Lord:

For he is raised up out of his holy habitation.
