92:4For you, O Lord, have made me happy by your work.
I will sing for joy because of what you have done.4
92:5How great are your works, O Lord!
Your plans are very intricate!5
92:6The spiritually insensitive do not recognize this;
the fool does not understand this.6
92:7When the wicked sprout up like grass,
and all the evildoers glisten,7
it is so that they may be annihilated.8
Footnotes
- 4 Heb “the works of your hands.”
- 5 Heb “very deep [are] your thoughts.” God’s “thoughts” refer here to his moral design of the world, as outlined in vv. 6–15.
- 6 Heb “the brutish man does not know, and the fool does not understand this.” The adjective בַּעַר (ba’ar, “brutish”) refers to spiritual insensitivity, not mere lack of intelligence or reasoning ability (see Pss 49:10; 73:22; Prov 12:1; 30:2, as well as the use of the related verb in Ps 94:8).
- 7 Or “flourish.”
- 8 Heb “in order that they might be destroyed permanently.” God allows the wicked to prosper temporarily so that he might reveal his justice. When the wicked are annihilated, God demonstrates that wickedness does not pay off.

For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy.
How great are your works, O Lord!

that though the wicked sprout like grass
and all evildoers flourish,
they are doomed to destruction forever;

For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
I sing for joy at what your hands have done.

For you have made me rejoice, Lord,
by what you have done;
I will shout for joy
because of the works of your hands.
How magnificent are your works, Lord,
how profound your thoughts!

they will be eternally destroyed.

You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me!
I sing for joy because of what you have done.
O Lord, what great works you do!
And how deep are your thoughts.
Only a simpleton would not know,
and only a fool would not understand this:
Though the wicked sprout like weeds
and evildoers flourish,
they will be destroyed forever.

KJV 1900King James Version
For thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work:
I will triumph in the works of thy hands.
O Lord, how great are thy works!
And thy thoughts are very deep.
A brutish man knoweth not;
Neither doth a fool understand this.
When the wicked spring as the grass,
And when all the workers of iniquity do flourish;
It is that they shall be destroyed for ever:
