Footnotes

  1. 26 The words “when they prayed,” though not represented in the Hebrew text, are supplied in the translation for clarification. The petition in vv. 13–14 is best understood as the cry for help which the oppressed offered to God when the nations threatened. The Lord answered this request, prompting the present song of thanksgiving.
  2. 27 Or “show me favor.”
  3. 28 Heb “see my misery from the ones who hate me.”
  4. 29 Heb “one who lifts me up.”
  5. 30 Or “so that I might.”
  6. 31 Heb “all your praise.” “Praise” stands by metonymy for the mighty acts that prompt it.
  7. 32 Daughter Zion is an idiomatic title for Jerusalem. It appears frequently in the prophets, but only here in the psalms.
  8. 33 Heb “in your deliverance.”

In the gates of the daughter of Zion

let me rejoice in your salvation.

KJV 1900King James Version

Have mercy upon me, O Lord;

Consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me,

Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death:

That I may shew forth all thy praise
