65:9You visit the earth and give it rain;18
you make it rich and fertile19
with overflowing streams full of water.20
You provide grain for them,21
for you prepare the earth to yield its crops.22
65:10You saturate23 its furrows,
and soak24 its plowed ground.25
With rain showers you soften its soil,26
and make its crops grow.27
65:11You crown the year with your good blessings,28
and you leave abundance in your wake.29
65:12The pastures in the wilderness glisten with moisture,30
and the hills are clothed with joy.31
65:13The meadows are clothed with sheep,
and the valleys are covered with grain.
They shout joyfully, yes, they sing.
Footnotes
- 18 The verb form is a Polel from שׁוּק (shuq, “be abundant”), a verb which appears only here and in Joel 2:24 and 3:13, where it is used in the Hiphil stem and means “overflow.”
- 19 Heb “you greatly enrich it.”
- 20 Heb “[with] a channel of God full of water.” The divine name is probably used here in a superlative sense to depict a very deep stream (“a stream fit for God,” as it were).
- 21 The pronoun apparently refers to the people of the earth, mentioned in v. 8.
- 22 Heb “for thus [referring to the provision of rain described in the first half of the verse] you prepare it.” The third feminine singular pronominal suffix attached to the verb “prepare” refers back to the “earth,” which is a feminine noun with regard to grammatical form.
- 23 Heb “saturating” [the form is an infinitive absolute].
- 24 Heb “flatten, cause to sink.”
- 25 Heb “trenches,” or “furrows.”
- 26 Heb “soften it,” that is, the earth.
- 27 Heb “its vegetation you bless.” Divine “blessing” often involves endowing an object with special power or capacity.
- 28 Heb “your good,” which refers here to agricultural blessings.
- 29 Heb “and your paths drip with abundance.”
- 30 Heb “drip.”
- 31 That is, with rich vegetation that brings joy to those who see it.

You visit the earth and water it;
you greatly enrich it;
the river of God is full of water;
you provide their grain,
for so you have prepared it.
You water its furrows abundantly,
settling its ridges,
softening it with showers,
and blessing its growth.
You crown the year with your bounty;
your wagon tracks overflow with abundance.
The pastures of the wilderness overflow,
the hills gird themselves with joy,
the meadows clothe themselves with flocks,
the valleys deck themselves with grain,
they shout and sing together for joy.

NIVNew International Version (2011)
You care for the land and water it;
you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide the people with grain,
for so you have ordained it.
You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
you soften it with showers and bless its crops.
You crown the year with your bounty,
and your carts overflow with abundance.
The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;
the hills are clothed with gladness.
The meadows are covered with flocks
and the valleys are mantled with grain;
they shout for joy and sing.

You visit the earth and water it abundantly,
enriching it greatly.
God’s stream is filled with water,
for you prepare the earth in this way,
providing people with grain.
You soften it with showers and bless its growth,
soaking its furrows and leveling its ridges.
You crown the year with your goodness;
your carts overflow with plenty.
The wilderness pastures overflow,
and the hills are robed with joy.
The pastures are clothed with flocks
and the valleys covered with grain.
They shout in triumph; indeed, they sing.

You take care of the earth and water it,
making it rich and fertile.
The river of God has plenty of water;
it provides a bountiful harvest of grain,
for you have ordered it so.
You drench the plowed ground with rain,
melting the clods and leveling the ridges.
You soften the earth with showers
and bless its abundant crops.
You crown the year with a bountiful harvest;
even the hard pathways overflow with abundance.
The grasslands of the wilderness become a lush pasture,
and the hillsides blossom with joy.
The meadows are clothed with flocks of sheep,
and the valleys are carpeted with grain.
They all shout and sing for joy!

With rains you soften it;
its growth you bless.

KJV 1900King James Version
Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it:
Thou greatly enrichest it
With the river of God, which is full of water:
Thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.
Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof:
Thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof.
Thou crownest the year with thy goodness;
And thy paths drop fatness.
They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness:
And the little hills rejoice on every side.
The pastures are clothed with flocks;
The valleys also are covered over with corn;
They shout for joy, they also sing.
