Footnotes

  1. 19 All of v. 11 is a so-called casus pendens (also known as an extraposition or a nominative absolute), which means that it anticipates the next verse, being the full description of “all (the rest of) the bull” (lit. “all the bull”) at the beginning of v. 12 (actually after the first verb of the verse; see the next note below).
  2. 20 Heb “And he (the offerer) shall bring out all the bull to from outside to the camp to a clean place.”
  3. 21 Heb “a clean place,” but referring to a place that is ceremonially clean. This has been specified in the translation for clarity.
  4. 22 Heb “the pouring out [place] of fatty ash.”
  5. 23 Heb “burn with fire.” This expression is somewhat redundant in English, so the translation collocates “fire” with “wood,” thus “a wood fire.”

But the hide of the bull and all its flesh, as well as the head and legs, the internal organs and the intestines—that is, all the rest of the bull—he must take outside the camp to a place ceremonially clean, where the ashes are thrown, and burn it there in a wood fire on the ash heap.

NLTNew Living Translation

But he must take whatever is left of the bull—its hide, meat, head, legs, internal organs, and dung—and carry it away to a place outside the camp that is ceremonially clean, the place where the ashes are dumped. There, on the ash heap, he will burn it on a wood fire.

LEBThe Lexham English Bible

KJV 1900King James Version
