7:19They will discard their silver in the streets, and their gold will be treated like filth.31 Their silver and gold will not be able to deliver them on the day of the Lord’s fury.32 They will not satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs because their wealth33 was the obstacle leading to their iniquity.347:20They rendered the beauty of his ornaments into pride,35 and with it they made their abominable images—their detestable idols. Therefore I will render it filthy to them. 7:21I will give it to foreigners as loot, to the world’s wicked ones as plunder, and they will desecrate it. 7:22I will turn my face away from them and they will desecrate my treasured place.36 Vandals will enter it and desecrate it.37
Footnotes
- 31 The Hebrew term can refer to menstrual impurity. The term also occurs at the end of v. 20.
- 32 Compare Zeph 1:18.
- 33 Heb “it.” Apparently the subject is the silver and gold mentioned earlier (see L. C. Allen, Ezekiel [], 1:).
- 34 The “stumbling block of their iniquity” is a unique phrase of the prophet Ezekiel (Ezek 14:3, 4, 7; 18:30; 44:12).
- 35 The reads “he set up the beauty of his ornament as pride.” The verb may be repointed as plural without changing the consonantal text. The reads “their ornaments” (plural), implying עֶדְיָם (’edyam) rather than עֶדְיוֹ (’edyo) and meaning “they were proud of their beautiful ornaments.” This understands “ornaments” in the common sense of women’s jewelry, which then were used to make idols. The singular suffix “his ornaments” would refer to using items from the temple treasury to make idols. D. I. Block points out the foreshadowing of Ezek 16:17 which, with Rashi and the , supports the understanding that this is a reference to temple items. See D. I. Block, Ezekiel (), 1:.
- 36 My treasured place probably refers to the temple (however, cf. “my treasured land”).
- 37 Since the pronouns “it” are both feminine, they do not refer to the masculine “my treasured place”; instead they probably refer to Jerusalem or the land, both of which are feminine in Hebrew.

ESVEnglish Standard Version
They cast their silver into the streets, and their gold is like an unclean thing. Their silver and gold are not able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord. They cannot satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs with it. For it was the stumbling block of their iniquity. His beautiful ornament they used for pride, and they made their abominable images and their detestable things of it. Therefore I make it an unclean thing to them. And I will give it into the hands of foreigners for prey, and to the wicked of the earth for spoil, and they shall profane it. I will turn my face from them, and they shall profane my treasured place. Robbers shall enter and profane it.

NIVNew International Version (2011)
“ ‘They will throw their silver into the streets,
and their gold will be treated as a thing unclean.
Their silver and gold
will not be able to deliver them
in the day of the Lord’s wrath.
It will not satisfy their hunger
or fill their stomachs,
for it has caused them to stumble into sin.
They took pride in their beautiful jewelry
and used it to make their detestable idols.
They made it into vile images;
therefore I will make it a thing unclean for them.
I will give their wealth as plunder to foreigners
and as loot to the wicked of the earth,
who will defile it.
I will turn my face away from the people,
and robbers will desecrate the place I treasure.
They will enter it
and will defile it.

CSBChristian Standard Bible
They will throw their silver into the streets,
and their gold will seem like something filthy.
Their silver and gold will be unable to save them
in the day of the Lord’s wrath.
They will not satisfy their appetites
or fill their stomachs,
for these were the stumbling blocks
that brought about their iniquity.
He appointed his beautiful ornaments for majesty,
but they made their detestable images from them,
their abhorrent things.
Therefore, I have made these
into something filthy to them.
I will hand these things over
to foreigners as plunder
and to the wicked of the earth as spoil,
and they will profane them.
I will turn my face from them
as they profane my treasured place.
Violent men will enter it and profane it.

NLTNew Living Translation
“They will throw their money in the streets,
tossing it out like worthless trash.
Their silver and gold won’t save them
on that day of the Lord’s anger.
It will neither satisfy nor feed them,
for their greed can only trip them up.
They were proud of their beautiful jewelry
and used it to make detestable idols and vile images.
Therefore, I will make all their wealth
disgusting to them.
I will give it as plunder to foreigners,
to the most wicked of nations,
and they will defile it.
I will turn my eyes from them
as these robbers invade and defile my treasured land.

LEBThe Lexham English Bible
Their silver they will discard on the streets, and filth will be their gold; their silver and their gold will not be able to rescue them on the day of the wrath of Yahweh. They will not satisfy their hunger and their stomachs they will not fill, for their guilt will be their stumbling block.
“ ‘And the beauty of its ornament he made into a prideful thing and made with it their detestable things and their vile idols; therefore I will make it into an impure thing for them. And I will give it into the hand of strangers as plunder and to the wicked people of the earth as spoil, and they will defile it. And I will turn my face from them, and they will defile my treasured place, and violent ones will enter and defile it.

KJV 1900King James Version
They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.
As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty: but they made the images of their abominations and of their detestable things therein: therefore have I set it far from them. And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey, and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil; and they shall pollute it. My face will I turn also from them, and they shall pollute my secret place: for the robbers shall enter into it, and defile it.
