7:14I will become his father and he will become my son. When he sins, I will correct him with the rod of men and with wounds inflicted by human beings. 7:15But my loyal love will not be removed from him as I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 7:16Your house and your kingdom will stand before me24 permanently; your dynasty25 will be permanent.’ ”

Read in Logos
2 Samuel 7:16: “And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.”

Footnotes

  1. 24 Heb “before you.” A few medieval Hebrew read instead “before me,” which makes better sense contextually. (See also the and the .) The reading is probably the result of dittography (note the ך [kaf] at the beginning of the next form), with the extra ך then being interpreted as a pronominal suffix.
  2. 25 Heb “throne.”

I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’ ”

NIVNew International Version (2011)

I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’ ”

CSBChristian Standard Bible

I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will discipline him with a rod of men and blows from mortals. But my faithful love will never leave him as it did when I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your house and kingdom will endure before me forever, and your throne will be established forever.’ ”

NLTNew Living Translation

I will be his father, and he will be my son. If he sins, I will correct and discipline him with the rod, like any father would do. But my favor will not be taken from him as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from your sight. Your house and your kingdom will continue before me for all time, and your throne will be secure forever.’ ”

LEBThe Lexham English Bible

I will be a father to him, and he will be a son for me, whom I will punish when he does wrong, with a rod of men and with blows of human beings. But my loyal love shall not depart from him as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before you; your throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”

KJV 1900King James Version

I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
