Romans 9:15–16
Romans 9:15–16 — The New International Version (NIV)
15 For he says to Moses,
“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.
Romans 9:15–16 — English Standard Version (ESV)
15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.
Romans 9:15–16 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
Romans 9:15–16 — New Living Translation (NLT)
15 For God said to Moses,
“I will show mercy to anyone I choose,
and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.”
16 So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it.
Romans 9:15–16 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
15 For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” 16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.
Romans 9:15–16 — New Century Version (NCV)
15 God said to Moses, “I will show kindness to anyone to whom I want to show kindness, and I will show mercy to anyone to whom I want to show mercy.” 16 So God will choose the one to whom he decides to show mercy; his choice does not depend on what people want or try to do.
Romans 9:15–16 — American Standard Version (ASV)
15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. 16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that hath mercy.
Romans 9:15–16 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
15 For he says to Moses, I will shew mercy to whom I will shew mercy, and I will feel compassion for whom I will feel compassion. 16 So then it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shews mercy.
Romans 9:15–16 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
15 For example, God said to Moses, “I will be kind to anyone I want to. I will be merciful to anyone I want to.” 16 Therefore, God’s choice does not depend on a person’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.
Romans 9:15–16 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
15 For He tells Moses:
I will show mercy
to whom I will show mercy,
and I will have compassion
on whom I will have compassion.
16 So then it does not depend on human will or effort but on God who shows mercy.
Romans 9:15–16 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
15 For he says to Moses,
“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
16 So it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God who shows mercy.
Romans 9:15–16 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
15 For to Moses he says, “I will have mercy on whomever I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I have compassion.” 16 Consequently therefore, it does not depend on the one who wills or on the one who runs, but on God who shows mercy.
Romans 9:15–16 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
15 He said to Moses,
“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy.
I will show love to those I love.”
16 So it doesn’t depend on what we want or do. It depends on God’s mercy.
