14For we have become partners of Christ, if indeed we hold fast the beginning of our commitment steadfast until the end, 15while it is saidg,
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”h
16For who, when they* heard it, were disobedient? Surely it was not all who went out from Egypt through Moses? 17And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness? 18And to whom did he swear they would not enter into his rest, except those who were disobedient? 19And so we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.
Footnotes
- gLiterally “in the saying”
- hA quotation from Ps 95:7b-8
- *Here “when” is supplied as a component of the participle (“heard”) which is understood as temporal

ESVEnglish Standard Version
For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. As it is said,
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

NIVNew International Version (2011)
We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. As has just been said:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion.”
Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

CSBChristian Standard Bible
For we have become participants in Christ if we hold firmly until the end the reality that we had at the start. As it is said:
Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.
For who heard and rebelled? Wasn’t it all who came out of Egypt under Moses? With whom was God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, if not to those who disobeyed? So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

NLTNew Living Translation
For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. Remember what it says:
“Today when you hear his voice,
don’t harden your hearts
as Israel did when they rebelled.”
And who was it who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Wasn’t it the people Moses led out of Egypt? And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness? And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him? So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest.

KJV 1900King James Version
For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
