1 Thessalonians 2:6–7
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — The New International Version (NIV)
6 We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority. 7 Instead, we were like young children among you.
Just as a nursing mother cares for her children,
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
6 Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. 7 But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — New Living Translation (NLT)
6 As for human praise, we have never sought it from you or anyone else.
7 As apostles of Christ we certainly had a right to make some demands of you, but instead we were like children among you. Or we were like a mother feeding and caring for her own children.
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
6 Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ. 7 But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children.
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — New Century Version (NCV)
6 We were not looking for human praise, from you or anyone else, 7 even though as apostles of Christ we could have used our authority over you.
But we were very gentle with you, like a mother caring for her little children.
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — American Standard Version (ASV)
6 nor seeking glory of men, neither from you nor from others, when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ. 7 But we were gentle in the midst of you, as when a nurse cherisheth her own children:
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
6 nor seeking glory from men, neither from you nor from others, when we might have been a charge as Christ’s apostles;
7 but have been gentle in the midst of you, as a nurse would cherish her own children.
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
6 We didn’t seek praise from people, from you or from anyone else, 7 although as apostles of Christ we had the right to do this.
Instead, we were gentle when we were with you, like a mother taking care of her children.
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
6 and we didn’t seek glory from people, either from you or from others. 7 Although we could have been a burden as Christ’s apostles, instead we were gentle among you, as a nursing mother nurtures her own children.
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
6 nor did we seek praise from mortals, whether from you or from others, 7 though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, like a nurse tenderly caring for her own children.
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
6 nor seeking glory from people, neither from you nor from others. 7 Although we could have insisted on our own importance as apostles of Christ, yet we became infants in your midst, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
6 We were not expecting people to praise us. We were not looking for praise from you or anyone else.
As Christ’s apostles, we could have caused you some expense. 7 But we were gentle among you. We were like a mother caring for her little children.
1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)
6 nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as apostles of Christ we might have asserted our authority.
7 But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children.
