Psalm 78:36–38
36But they flattered him with their mouth,
And lied unto him with their tongue.
37For their heart was not right with him,
Neither were they faithful in his covenant.
38But he, being merciful, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not:
Yea, many a time turned he his anger away,
And did not stir up all his wrath.
Psalm 78:36–38 — New International Version (2011) (NIV)
36 But then they would flatter him with their mouths,
lying to him with their tongues;
37 their hearts were not loyal to him,
they were not faithful to his covenant.
38 Yet he was merciful;
he forgave their iniquities
and did not destroy them.
Time after time he restrained his anger
and did not stir up his full wrath.
Psalm 78:36–38 — English Standard Version (ESV)
36 But they flattered him with their mouths;
they lied to him with their tongues.
37 Their heart was not steadfast toward him;
they were not faithful to his covenant.
38 Yet he, being compassionate,
atoned for their iniquity
and did not destroy them;
he restrained his anger often
and did not stir up all his wrath.
Psalm 78:36–38 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

38 But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not:
Yea, many a time turned he his anger away,
And did not stir up all his wrath.
Psalm 78:36–38 — New Living Translation (NLT)

they lied to him with their tongues.

They did not keep his covenant.
38 Yet he was merciful and forgave their sins
and did not destroy them all.
Many times he held back his anger
and did not unleash his fury!
Psalm 78:36–38 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

And they lied to Him with their tongue;
37 For their heart was not steadfast with Him,

38 But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity,
And did not destroy them.
Yes, many a time He turned His anger away,
And did not stir up all His wrath;
Psalm 78:36–38 — New Century Version (NCV)
36 But their words were false,
and their tongues lied to him.
37 Their hearts were not really loyal to God;
they did not keep his agreement.
38 Still God was merciful.
He forgave their sins
and did not destroy them.
Many times he held back his anger
and did not stir up all his anger.
Psalm 78:36–38 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
