5 The Lord spoke to me again:

6 “Because this people has rejected

the gently flowing waters of Shiloah

and rejoices over Rezin

and the son of Remaliah,

7 therefore the Lord is about to bring against them

the mighty floodwaters of the Euphrates—

the king of Assyria with all his pomp.

It will overflow all its channels,

run over all its banks

8 and sweep on into Judah, swirling over it,

passing through it and reaching up to the neck.

Its outspread wings will cover the breadth of your land,

Immanuel!”

9 Raise the war cry, you nations, and be shattered!

Listen, all you distant lands.

Prepare for battle, and be shattered!

10 Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted;

propose your plan, but it will not stand,

for God is with us.

5 The Lord spoke to me again: 6 “Because this people has refused the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and rejoice over Rezin and the son of Remaliah, 7 therefore, behold, the Lord is bringing up against them the waters of the River, mighty and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory. And it will rise over all its channels and go over all its banks, 8 and it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass on, reaching even to the neck, and its outspread wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.”

9 Be broken, you peoples, and be shattered;

give ear, all you far countries;

strap on your armor and be shattered;

10 Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing;

speak a word, but it will not stand,

for God is with us.

5 The Lord spake also unto me again, saying,

6 Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly,

And rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son;

7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them

The waters of the river, strong and many,

Even the king of Assyria, and all his glory:

And he shall come up over all his channels,

And go over all his banks:

8 And he shall pass through Judah;

He shall overflow and go over,

He shall reach even to the neck;

And the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.

9 Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces;

And give ear, all ye of far countries:

Gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces;

Gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.

10 Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought;

Speak the word, and it shall not stand:

For God is with us.

5 Then the Lord spoke to me again and said, 6 “My care for the people of Judah is like the gently flowing waters of Shiloah, but they have rejected it. They are rejoicing over what will happen to King Rezin and King Pekah. 7 Therefore, the Lord will overwhelm them with a mighty flood from the Euphrates River—the king of Assyria and all his glory. This flood will overflow all its channels 8 and sweep into Judah until it is chin deep. It will spread its wings, submerging your land from one end to the other, O Immanuel.

9 “Huddle together, you nations, and be terrified.

Listen, all you distant lands.

Prepare for battle, but you will be crushed!

Yes, prepare for battle, but you will be crushed!

10 Call your councils of war, but they will be worthless.

Develop your strategies, but they will not succeed.

For God is with us!”

5 The Lord also spoke to me again, saying:

6 “Inasmuch as these people refused

The waters of Shiloah that flow softly,

And rejoice in Rezin and in Remaliah’s son;

7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up over them

The waters of the River, strong and mighty—

The king of Assyria and all his glory;

He will go up over all his channels

And go over all his banks.

8 He will pass through Judah,

He will overflow and pass over,

He will reach up to the neck;

And the stretching out of his wings

Will fill the breadth of Your land, O Immanuel.

9 “Be shattered, O you peoples, and be broken in pieces!

Give ear, all you from far countries.

Gird yourselves, but be broken in pieces;

Gird yourselves, but be broken in pieces.

10 Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing;

Speak the word, but it will not stand,

For God is with us.”

5 Again the Lord spoke to me, saying,

6 “These people refuse to accept

the slow-moving waters of the pool of Shiloah

and are terrified of Rezin

and Pekah son of Remaliah.

7 So I, the Lord, will bring

the king of Assyria and all his power against them,

like a powerful flood of water from the Euphrates River.

The Assyrians will be like water rising over the banks of the river,

flowing over the land.

8 That water will flow into Judah and pass through it,

rising to Judah’s throat.

Immanuel, this army will spread its wings like a bird

until it covers your whole country.”

9 Be broken, all you nations,

and be smashed to pieces.

Listen, all you faraway countries.

but they will be defeated.

5 And Jehovah spoke again to me, saying, 6 Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah which flow softly, and rejoiceth in Rezin and in the son of Remaliah, 7 therefore behold, the Lord will bring up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory; and he shall mount up over all his channels, and go over all his banks: 8 and he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow it and go further, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel!

9 Rage, ye peoples, and be broken in pieces! And give ear, all ye distant parts of the earth: Gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces! 10 Settle a plan, and it shall come to nought; speak a word, and it shall not stand: for •God is with us.

5 The Lord spoke to me again. He said, 

6 “These people have rejected the gently flowing water of Shiloah 

and find joy in Rezin and Remaliah’s son.” 

7 That is why the Lord is going to bring against them 

the raging and powerful floodwaters of the Euphrates River— 

the king of Assyria with all his power. 

It will overflow all its channels and go over all its banks. 

8 It will sweep through Judah. 

It will overflow and pass through; it will be neck-high. 

Its outspread wings will extend over your whole country, O Immanuel. 

9 Be broken, you people. Be terrified.

the king of Assyria and all his glory.

8 It will pour into Judah,

flood over it, and sweep through,

reaching up to the neck;

and its spreading streams

will fill your entire land, Immanuel!

9 Band together, peoples, and be broken;

pay attention, all you distant lands;

prepare for war, and be broken;

10 Devise a plan; it will fail.

Make a prediction; it will not happen.

For God is with us.

9 Band together, you peoples, and be dismayed;

listen, all you far countries;

gird yourselves and be dismayed;

gird yourselves and be dismayed!

10 Take counsel together, but it shall be brought to naught;

speak a word, but it will not stand,

for God is with us.

5 And Yahweh continued to speak to me again, saying,

6 “Because this people has refused the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoices over Rezin and the son of Remaliah, 7 therefore look! The Lord is bringing up the waters of the great and mighty river against them, the king of Assyria and all his glory.

And he will rise above all his channels,

and he will flow over all his banks.

8 And he will sweep into Judah;

he will overflow and he will flood up to the neck.

He will reach, and he will spread his wings out over your entire land, God with us.”

9 Be broken, you peoples, and be dismayed.

And listen, all distant parts of the earth;

gird yourselves and be dismayed;

gird yourselves and be dismayed!

10 Make a plan, but it will be frustrated!

Speak a word, but it will not stand,

for God is with us!

5 The Lord continued,

6 “I am like the gently flowing stream of Siloam.

But the people of Judah have turned their backs on me.

They are filled with joy because of the fall of Rezin

and the son of Remaliah.

7 So I am about to bring against these people

the king of Assyria and his whole army.

The Assyrians will be like the mighty Euphrates River

when it is flooding.

They will run over everything in their path.

8 They will sweep on into Judah like a flood.

They will pass through Judah and reach all the way to Jerusalem.

Immanuel, they will attack your land like an eagle.

Their wings will spread out and cover it.”

9 Sound the battle cry, you nations!

But you will be torn apart.

Listen, all of you lands far away!

10 Make your battle plans! But you won’t succeed.

Give your orders! But they won’t be carried out.

That’s because God is with us.

6 “Inasmuch as these people have rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah

And rejoice in Rezin and the son of Remaliah;

7 “Now therefore, behold, the Lord is about to bring on them the strong and abundant waters of the Euphrates,

Even the king of Assyria and all his glory;

And it will rise up over all its channels and go over all its banks.

8 “Then it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass through,

It will reach even to the neck;

And the spread of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.

9 “Be broken, O peoples, and be shattered;

And give ear, all remote places of the earth.

Gird yourselves, yet be shattered;

Gird yourselves, yet be shattered.

10 “Devise a plan, but it will be thwarted;

State a proposal, but it will not stand,

For God is with us.”
