Jeremiah 48:37–38

37 Every head is shaved

and every beard cut off;

every hand is slashed

and every waist is covered with sackcloth.

38 On all the roofs in Moab

and in the public squares

there is nothing but mourning,

for I have broken Moab

like a jar that no one wants,”

declares the Lord.

37 “For every head is shaved and every beard cut off. On all the hands are gashes, and around the waist is sackcloth. 38 On all the housetops of Moab and in the squares there is nothing but lamentation, for I have broken Moab like a vessel for which no one cares, declares the Lord.

37 For every head shall be bald,

And every beard clipped:

Upon all the hands shall be cuttings,

And upon the loins sackcloth.

38 There shall be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof:

For I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein is no pleasure, saith the Lord.

37 The people shave their heads and beards in mourning. They slash their hands and put on clothes made of burlap. 38 There is crying and sorrow in every Moabite home and on every street. For I have smashed Moab like an old, unwanted jar.

37 Every head has been shaved

and every beard cut off.

Everyone’s hands are cut,

and everyone wears rough cloth around his waist.

38 People are crying on every roof in Moab

and in every public square.

There is nothing but sadness,

because I have broken Moab

like a jar no one wants,” says the Lord.

37 For every head is bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands are cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth. 38 On all the housetops of Moab and in the streets thereof there is lamentation every where; for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein none delighteth, saith Jehovah.

37 For every head is bald, and every beard clipped; upon all the hands are cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth. 38 It is wholly lamentation upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the public places thereof; for I have broken Moab, like a vessel wherein is no pleasure, saith Jehovah.

37 “Every head is shaved, and every beard is cut off. There are gashes on every hand and sackcloth on every waist. 38 People in Moab will mourn on every rooftop and in every street. There will be mourning everywhere, because I will break Moab like a jar that no one wants,” declares the Lord.

37 Indeed, every head is bald and every beard clipped; on every hand is a gash and sackcloth around the waist. 38 On all the rooftops of Moab and in her public squares, everyone is mourning because I have shattered Moab like a jar no one wants.” This is the Lord’s declaration.

37 For every head is shaved and every beard cut off; on all the hands there are gashes and on the loins sackcloth. 38 On all the housetops of Moab and in the squares there is nothing but lamentation, for I have broken Moab like a vessel that no one wants, says the Lord.

37 For on every head is baldness,

and every beard is trimmed.

On all the hands, slashes,

and on the loins, sackcloth.

38 On all the roofs of Moab, and in its public squares,

there is wailing everywhere.

For I have broken Moab like a vessel,

there is no delight in it,” declares Yahweh.

37 Every head is shaved.

Every beard is cut off.

Every hand is cut.

And every waist is covered with black cloth.

38 Sobbing is the only sound in Moab.

It is heard on all of its roofs.

It is heard in the market places.

I have broken Moab

like a jar that no one wants,”

announces the Lord.

37 “For every head is bald and every beard cut short; there are gashes on all the hands and sackcloth on the loins.

38 “On all the housetops of Moab and in its streets there is lamentation everywhere; for I have broken Moab like an undesirable vessel,” declares the Lord.
