4 The earth dries up and withers,

the world languishes and withers,

the heavens languish with the earth.

5 The earth is defiled by its people;

they have disobeyed the laws,

violated the statutes

and broken the everlasting covenant.

4 The earth mourns and withers;

the world languishes and withers;

the highest people of the earth languish.

5 The earth lies defiled

under its inhabitants;

for they have transgressed the laws,

violated the statutes,

broken the everlasting covenant.

4 The earth mourneth and fadeth away,

The world languisheth and fadeth away,

The haughty people of the earth do languish.

5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof;

Because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance,

Broken the everlasting covenant.

4 The earth mourns and dries up,

and the land wastes away and withers.

Even the greatest people on earth waste away.

5 The earth suffers for the sins of its people,

for they have twisted God’s instructions,

violated his laws,

and broken his everlasting covenant.

4 The earth will dry up and die;

the world will grow weak and die;

the great leaders in this land will become weak.

5 The people of the earth have ruined it,

because they do not follow God’s teachings

or obey God’s laws

or keep their agreement with God that was to last forever.

4 The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the lofty people of the earth do languish. 5 The earth also is polluted under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant.

4 The land mourneth, it fadeth away; the world languisheth, it fadeth away: the haughty people of the land do languish. 5 And the land is polluted under the inhabitants thereof; for they have violated the laws, changed the statute, broken the everlasting covenant.

and broken the everlasting covenant.

The world will dry up and waste away.

The most important people on earth will fade away.

5 The earth is polluted by its people.

They haven’t obeyed the laws of the Lord.

They haven’t done what he told them to do.

They’ve broken the covenant that will last forever.
