12 I will ruin her vines and her fig trees,

which she said were her pay from her lovers;

I will make them a thicket,

and wild animals will devour them.

13 I will punish her for the days

she burned incense to the Baals;

she decked herself with rings and jewelry,

and went after her lovers,

but me she forgot,”

declares the Lord.

14 “Therefore I am now going to allure her;

I will lead her into the wilderness

and speak tenderly to her.

15 There I will give her back her vineyards,

and will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope.

There she will respond as in the days of her youth,

as in the day she came up out of Egypt.

12 And I will lay waste her vines and her fig trees,

of which she said,

‘These are my wages,

which my lovers have given me.’

I will make them a forest,

and the beasts of the field shall devour them.

13 And I will punish her for the feast days of the Baals

when she burned offerings to them

and adorned herself with her ring and jewelry,

and went after her lovers

and forgot me, declares the Lord.

14 “Therefore, behold, I will allure her,

and bring her into the wilderness,

and speak tenderly to her.

15 And there I will give her her vineyards

and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope.

And there she shall answer as in the days of her youth,

as at the time when she came out of the land of Egypt.

12 And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees,

Whereof she hath said, These are my rewards that my lovers have given me:

And I will make them a forest,

And the beasts of the field shall eat them.

13 And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them,

And she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels,

And she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the Lord.

14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her,

And bring her into the wilderness,

And speak comfortably unto her.

15 And I will give her her vineyards from thence,

And the valley of Achor for a door of hope:

And she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth,

And as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

12 I will destroy her grapevines and fig trees,

things she claims her lovers gave her.

I will let them grow into tangled thickets,

where only wild animals will eat the fruit.

13 I will punish her for all those times

when she burned incense to her images of Baal,

when she put on her earrings and jewels

and went out to look for her lovers

but forgot all about me,”

says the Lord.

14 “But then I will win her back once again.

I will lead her into the desert

and speak tenderly to her there.

15 I will return her vineyards to her

and transform the Valley of Trouble into a gateway of hope.

She will give herself to me there,

as she did long ago when she was young,

when I freed her from her captivity in Egypt.

12 I will destroy her vines and fig trees,

which she said were her pay from her lovers.

I will turn them into a forest,

and wild animals will eat them.

13 I will punish her for all the times

she burned incense to the Baals.

She put on her rings and jewelry

and went chasing after her lovers,

but she forgot me!”

says the Lord.

14 “So I am going to attract her;

I will lead her into the desert

and speak tenderly to her.

15 There I will give her back her vineyards,

and I will make the Valley of Trouble a door of hope.

There she will respond as when she was young,

as when she came out of Egypt.”

12 And I will lay waste her vines and her fig-trees, whereof she hath said, These are my hire that my lovers have given me; and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them. 13 And I will visit upon her the days of the Baalim, unto which she burned incense, when she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith Jehovah.

14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her. 15 And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope; and she shall make answer there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

12 And I will make desolate her vine and her fig-tree, whereof she hath said, These are my rewards which my lovers have given me; and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them. 13 And I will visit upon her the days of the Baals, wherein she burned incense to them, and decked herself with her rings and jewels, and went after her lovers, and forgot me, saith Jehovah.

14 Therefore behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak to her heart. 15 And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope; and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

She said that they were gifts from her lovers. 

I will turn her vineyards into a forest, and wild animals will devour them. 

13 I will punish her for all the times she burned incense 

as an offering to other gods—the Baals. 

She put on her rings and jewelry, 

and she chased after her lovers. 

She forgot me,” declares the Lord. 

14 “That is why I’m going to win her back. 

I will lead her into the desert. 

I will speak tenderly to her. 

15 I will give her vineyards there. 

I will make the valley of Achor [Disaster] a door of hope. 

Then she will respond as she did when she was young, 

as she did when she came out of Egypt. 

12 I will devastate her vines and fig trees.

She thinks that these are her wages

that her lovers have given her.

I will turn them into a thicket,

and the wild animals will eat them.

13 And I will punish her for the days of the Baals

when she burned incense to them,

put on her rings and jewelry,

and went after her lovers,

but forgot Me.

This is the Lord’s declaration.

14 Therefore, I am going to persuade her,

lead her to the wilderness,

and speak tenderly to her.

15 There I will give her vineyards back to her

and make the Valley of Achor

into a gateway of hope.

There she will respond as she did

in the days of her youth,

as in the day she came out of the land of Egypt.

of which she said,

which my lovers have given me.”

13 I will punish her for the festival days of the Baals,

when she offered incense to them

and decked herself with her ring and jewelry,

and went after her lovers,

and forgot me, says the Lord.

14 Therefore, I will now allure her,

and bring her into the wilderness,

and speak tenderly to her.

15 From there I will give her her vineyards,

and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope.

There she shall respond as in the days of her youth,

as at the time when she came out of the land of Egypt.

12 and I will lay waste to her vines and her fig trees,

of which she said,

“They are my payment for prostitution,

which my lovers gave to me.”

I will make them a forest,

and the wild animals of the field will devour them.

13 I will punish her for the days of the Baals,

to whom she burns incense,

and she decked herself with her ornamental ring and jewelry,

and she went after her lovers, and forgot me

—a declaration of Yahweh.

14 Therefore, Look! I am going to allure her

and bring her into the desert,

and I will speak tenderly to her.

15 From there I will give her

her vineyards,

and the Valley of Achor as a doorway of hope.

And there she will respond,

as in the days of her youth,

just as in the day of her coming out of

the land of Egypt.

12 I will destroy her vines and her fig trees.

She said they were her pay from her lovers.

I’ll make them like clumps of bushes and weeds.

Wild animals will eat them up.

13 The Lord announces,

“Israel burned incense to the gods

that were named after Baal.

I will punish her

for all of the times she did that.

She decorated herself with rings and jewelry.

Then she went after her lovers.

But she forgot all about me.

14 “So now I am going to draw her back to me.

I will lead her into the desert.

There I will speak tenderly to her.

15 I will give her back her vineyards.

I will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope for her.

Then she will love me, as she did when she was young.

She will love me just as she did

when she came up out of Egypt.

12 “I will destroy her vines and fig trees,

Of which she said, ‘These are my wages

Which my lovers have given me.’

And I will make them a forest,

And the beasts of the field will devour them.

13 “I will punish her for the days of the Baals

When she used to offer sacrifices to them

And adorn herself with her earrings and jewelry,

And follow her lovers, so that she forgot Me,” declares the Lord.

14 “Therefore, behold, I will allure her,

Bring her into the wilderness

And speak kindly to her.

15 “Then I will give her her vineyards from there,

And the valley of Achor as a door of hope.

And she will sing there as in the days of her youth,

As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt.
