Ezekiel 7:15–19

15 Outside is the sword;

inside are plague and famine.

Those in the country

will die by the sword;

those in the city

will be devoured by famine and plague.

16 The fugitives who escape

will flee to the mountains.

Like doves of the valleys,

they will all moan,

each for their own sins.

17 Every hand will go limp;

every leg will be wet with urine.

18 They will put on sackcloth

and be clothed with terror.

Every face will be covered with shame,

and every head will be shaved.

19 “ ‘They will throw their silver into the streets,

and their gold will be treated as a thing unclean.

Their silver and gold

will not be able to deliver them

in the day of the Lord’s wrath.

It will not satisfy their hunger

or fill their stomachs,

for it has caused them to stumble into sin.

15 The sword is without; pestilence and famine are within. He who is in the field dies by the sword, and him who is in the city famine and pestilence devour. 16 And if any survivors escape, they will be on the mountains, like doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, each one over his iniquity. 17 All hands are feeble, and all knees turn to water. 18 They put on sackcloth, and horror covers them. Shame is on all faces, and baldness on all their heads. 19 They cast their silver into the streets, and their gold is like an unclean thing. Their silver and gold are not able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord. They cannot satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs with it. For it was the stumbling block of their iniquity.

15 The sword is without, and the pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword; and he that is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him. 16 But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, every one for his iniquity. 17 All hands shall be feeble, and all knees shall be weak as water. 18 They shall also gird themselves with sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads. 19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

15 There is war outside the city

and disease and famine within.

Those outside the city walls

will be killed by enemy swords.

Those inside the city

will die of famine and disease.

16 The survivors who escape to the mountains

will moan like doves, weeping for their sins.

17 Their hands will hang limp,

their knees will be weak as water.

18 They will dress themselves in burlap;

horror and shame will cover them.

They will shave their heads

in sorrow and remorse.

19 “They will throw their money in the streets,

tossing it out like worthless trash.

Their silver and gold won’t save them

on that day of the Lord’s anger.

It will neither satisfy nor feed them,

for their greed can only trip them up.

15 “The sword is outside, and disease and hunger are inside. Whoever is in the field will die by the sword. Hunger and disease will destroy those in the city. 16 Those who are left alive and who escape will be on the mountains, moaning like doves of the valleys about their own sin. 17 All hands will hang weakly with fear, and all knees will become weak as water. 18 They will put on rough cloth to show how sad they are. They will tremble all over with fear. Their faces will show their shame, and all their heads will be shaved. 19 The people will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will be like trash. Their silver and gold will not save them from the Lord’s anger. It will not satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs, because it caused them to fall into sin.

15 “Outside are swords, and inside are plagues and famines. Whoever is in a field will die in battle. Whoever is in the city will be devoured by famines and plagues. 16 Those who survive will escape to the mountains. They will moan like doves in the valleys. They will moan because of their sins. 17 Every hand will hang limp, and every knee will be as weak as water. 18 They will put on sackcloth, and horror will cover them. All their faces will be covered with shame, and every head will be shaved. 19 They will throw their silver and gold into the streets like garbage. Their silver and gold won’t be able to rescue them on the day of the Lord’s anger. It will no longer satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs. Their silver and gold caused them to fall into sin.

15 The sword is on the outside;

plague and famine are on the inside.

Whoever is in the field will die by the sword,

and famine and plague will devour

whoever is in the city.

16 The survivors among them will escape

and live on the mountains

like doves of the valley,

all of them moaning,

each over his own iniquity.

17 All their hands will become weak,

and all their knees will turn to water.

18 They will put on sackcloth,

and horror will overwhelm them.

Shame will cover all their faces,

and all their heads will be bald.

19 They will throw their silver into the streets,

and their gold will seem like something filthy.

Their silver and gold will be unable to save them

in the day of the Lord’s wrath.

They will not satisfy their appetites

or fill their stomachs,

for these were the stumbling blocks

that brought about their iniquity.

15 The sword is outside; pestilence and famine are inside;

those in the city—famine and pestilence devour them.

16 If any survivors escape,

they shall be found on the mountains

like doves of the valleys,

all of them moaning over their iniquity.

17 All hands shall grow feeble,

all knees turn to water.

18 They shall put on sackcloth;

horror shall cover them.

Shame shall be on all faces,

baldness on all their heads.

19 They shall fling their silver into the streets;

their gold shall be treated as unclean.

Their silver and gold cannot save them on the day of the wrath of the Lord. They shall not satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs with it. For it was the stumbling block of their iniquity.

15 The sword is outside, and the plague and the famine are inside; the one who is in the field will die by the sword, and the one who is in the city, famine and plague will devour him. 16 And if their survivors will escape, they will be on the mountains, like the doves of the valley, all of them groaning, each because of his guilt. 17 All of the hands will hang limp, and all of the knees will be wet with urine. 18 And they will wear sackcloth, and horror will cover them, and on all of the faces will be shame, and baldness on all of their heads. 19 Their silver they will discard on the streets, and filth will be their gold; their silver and their gold will not be able to rescue them on the day of the wrath of Yahweh. They will not satisfy their hunger and their stomachs they will not fill, for their guilt will be their stumbling block.

15 “ ‘There is trouble everywhere. War is outside the city. Plague and hunger are inside it. Those who are out in the country will die in battle. Those in the city will be destroyed by hunger and plague. 16 All those who escape and are left alive will run to the mountains. They have committed many sins. So they will cry like sad doves in the valleys.

17 “ ‘Their hands will be powerless to help them. Their knees will become as weak as water. 18 They will put on black clothes. They will put on terror as if it were their clothes. Their faces will be covered with shame. Their heads will be shaved.

19 “ ‘They will throw their silver into the streets. Their gold will be like an “unclean” thing. Their silver and gold will not be able to save them on the day I pour out my anger on them. They will not be able to satisfy their hunger. Their stomachs will not be full. Their silver and gold have tripped them up. They have made them fall into sin.

16 ‘Even when their survivors escape, they will be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, each over his own iniquity.

17 ‘All hands will hang limp and all knees will become like water.

18 ‘They will gird themselves with sackcloth and shuddering will overwhelm them; and shame will be on all faces and baldness on all their heads.

19 ‘They will fling their silver into the streets and their gold will become an abhorrent thing; their silver and their gold will not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord. They cannot satisfy their appetite nor can they fill their stomachs, for their iniquity has become an occasion of stumbling.
