Amos 5:9–10

9 With a blinding flash he destroys the stronghold

and brings the fortified city to ruin.

10 There are those who hate the one who upholds justice in court

and detest the one who tells the truth.

9 who makes destruction flash forth against the strong,

so that destruction comes upon the fortress.

10 They hate him who reproves in the gate,

and they abhor him who speaks the truth.

9 That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong,

So that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.

10 They hate him that rebuketh in the gate,

And they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

9 With blinding speed and power he destroys the strong,

crushing all their defenses.

10 How you hate honest judges!

How you despise people who tell the truth!

9 He destroys the protected city;

he ruins the strong, walled city.

10 You hate those who speak in court against evil,

and you can’t stand those who tell the truth.

9 that bringeth sudden destruction upon the strong, so that destruction cometh upon the fortress.

10 They hate him that reproveth in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

9 He causeth destruction to break forth suddenly upon the strong, and bringeth destruction upon the fortress. 10 They hate him that reproveth in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

9 He destroys strongholds and ruins fortresses. 

10 Israel, you hate anyone who speaks out against injustice. 

You are disgusted by anyone who speaks the truth. 

9 He brings destruction on the strong,

and it falls on the stronghold.

10 They hate the one who convicts the guilty

at the city gate

and despise the one who speaks with integrity.

9 The one who makes destruction flash upon the fierce, so that destruction comes upon the fortification. 10 They hate the one who reproves in the gate and they abhor the one who speaks honestly.

9 He destroys places of safety.

He tears down cities

that have high walls around them.

10 Israel, you hate those who do what is right in court.

You can’t stand those who tell the truth.

9 It is He who flashes forth with destruction upon the strong,

So that destruction comes upon the fortress.

10 They hate him who reproves in the gate,

And they abhor him who speaks with integrity.
