Amos 5:12–14

12 For I know how many are your offenses

and how great your sins.

There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes

and deprive the poor of justice in the courts.

13 Therefore the prudent keep quiet in such times,

for the times are evil.

14 Seek good, not evil,

that you may live.

Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you,

just as you say he is.

12 For I know how many are your transgressions

and how great are your sins—

you who afflict the righteous, who take a bribe,

and turn aside the needy in the gate.

13 Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time,

for it is an evil time.

14 Seek good, and not evil,

that you may live;

and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you,

as you have said.

12 For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins:

They afflict the just, they take a bribe,

And they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.

13 Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time;

For it is an evil time.

14 Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live:

And so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

12 For I know the vast number of your sins

and the depth of your rebellions.

You oppress good people by taking bribes

and deprive the poor of justice in the courts.

13 So those who are smart keep their mouths shut,

for it is an evil time.

14 Do what is good and run from evil

so that you may live!

Then the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies will be your helper,

just as you have claimed.

12 I know your many crimes,

your terrible sins.

You hurt people who do right,

you take money to do wrong,

and you keep the poor from getting justice in court.

13 In such times the wise person will keep quiet,

because it is a bad time.

14 Try to do good, not evil,

so that you will live,

and the Lord God All-Powerful will be with you

just as you say he is.

13 That is why a wise person remains silent at such times, 

because those times are so evil. 

14 Search for good instead of evil so that you may live. 

Then the Lord God of Armies will be with you, as you have said.

for the days are evil.

12 For I know your transgressions are many and your sins are numerous, you foes of the righteous, those who take a bribe, and those who push aside the poor ones in the gate! 13 Therefore, whoever has insight will keep silent in that time, for it is a time of evil. 14 Seek good and not bad in order that you may live, and so Yahweh, the God of hosts, will be with you, as you have said.

12 I know how many crimes you have committed.

You have sinned far too much.

You crush those who do what is right.

You accept money from people who want special favors.

You take away the rights of poor people in the courts.

13 So those who are wise keep quiet in times like these.

That’s because the times are evil.

14 Look to what is good, not to what is evil.

Then you will live.

And the Lord God who rules over all

will be with you,

just as you say he is.

12 For I know your transgressions are many and your sins are great,

You who distress the righteous and accept bribes

And turn aside the poor in the gate.

13 Therefore at such a time the prudent person keeps silent, for it is an evil time.

14 Seek good and not evil, that you may live;

And thus may the Lord God of hosts be with you,

Just as you have said!
